Love this four track house EP from Bushwacka, his first release on Rekids. The title track is a spoken word houser with one of the chunkiest two-note basslines I’ve heard in a while, driving a groove that’s part way between ’90s New York house and early ’90s Gurialla-type prog house. It’s a proper driving, relentless underground house jam that comes with that irresistible trademark Bushwacka shuffle to the drums. The dub version takes the same rock-solid groove and smoothers the various parts in FX and adds a bonus 3 am rush-inducing breakdown near the end for those who stick around long enough. A pair of absolute killers, equally funky and deep.
The EP also features two versions of “Roger That.” The first is one of those tunes that’s already fire when it’s barely got going, a pristinely programmed and head noddingly funky underground house jam, and then he drops this sexy little wriggling bassline and seriously, I’m done. Version two is all about the melodic magic you get from dropping a pair of chiming minor chords on top of an expertly crafted house groove.
All four tracks here are expertly done, the kind of tunes that are a pleasure to play and likely to stay in your record box/usb for the foreseeable future.
