First impression: this is one great track and three really good ones. But the longer I listened to Dennis Quin‘s Treat You Right the more I loved it all — all four tracks, including a remix that knocks the house down.
The title track is one of those DJ-friendly mixes that rises out of the bassbins like floodwaters — you feel it before you hear it — featuring a powerful vocal by Cheshy matching Quin’s brawny beats. “Treat You Right” is made for basement clubs and rooms with a tight fit.
“Impressions” is a spiritual successor to tracks like Armando‘s “100% of Disin’ U” and Ralphi Rosario‘s “Bardot Fever” which featured legendary Chicago club kid and host Byrd Bardot. “Touched” is a scratchy, striding track of the sort that DJs can never have enough of: it’s a perfect set up track, with three places where the drums drop out and invite you to get creative in the mix.
The “Classy Dub” of “Treat You Right” says it all: it’s the best track on here, the first that caught my attention and likely the one I’m gonna play the most. Quin could have built three separate EPs around any of these tracks and stuffed ’em up with some light remixes and filler. Instead, it’s Christmas in August with four ground-shaking bombs.
