Two nicely put-together deep house tracks here, taken from Felipe Gordon’s four-track My Legs Are Numb EP on Bristol’s Shall Not Fade label. The title tune features a louche, casual male vocal that possesses a certain sleepy charm, over some bittersweet electric piano chords and the kind of pitter-patter click-clack percussion track l love. Didn’t like the vocal at first (sorry, I know I always ask, but can we have a dub or at least an instrumental please?) but contented myself with the fact that there are enough vamp sections to edit it out live should I wish to, but on further listening it’s really grown on me.

Second track “Sander’s Journey” is made up of a pretty simple drum track: tidy kick, low key hi-hat shuffle, sharp snappy clap, over which he gradually introduces layers of spacey pads and chord washes, then chops them up into trimmed tight little riffs before pouring them all on again really thick. It moves from dreamy and drifty into trimmed and chopped and back again, managing to make a fluffy, dreamy and drifty house jam that still slaps rather than lulls.
