Crazy to listen to the original of this and try to place it in 1992. I’m pretty sure I would have been puking up Death Rave 2000 mixtapes back then and listening to MCs trying their damnedest to pretend a low watt college radio station in Evanston was the king of the pirates in London. Meanwhile Dave Lee was making records with a smooth production style that wouldn’t be touched until ProTools cleaned everything up for everyone.

“Love Fantasy” was the cornerstone of the 1992 Z Records EP Enter Your Fantasy, also notable for the B-side track “Everybody” that borrowed from DC LaRue‘s legendary “Cathedrals” (which was later reissued on Z Records itself).

Dr. Greg Packer takes a swing with two remixes of the original. His first remix is nearly nine minutes and gets better and better as it goes on. By the end the bass is flying wild and the arms will be flailing in the air, rewarding the hearty souls who stick it out to the end. And on the other side: the edit comes in at under four minutes, succinct and letting the vocal soar. This is apparently a sneak peak from Dr. Packer’s forthcoming album, called Operation Disco, and if it’s meant to whet the appetite, consider it done.
