To use the parlance of the moment, NDATL is among a handful of truly “essential” businesses in the deep house scene, with a staggering, on-the-bleeding-edge of legendary output capturing old hands and new bloods right at their peak. After a stomping 2020 a label that proudly emphasizes the soulful aspects of deep house meets with the troubadour who revolutionized tech house in a similar way, with a similar toolkit. Mr G makes infrequent sorties from his home base on Phoenix G with Positive Connection and this is one worthy of memorialization with a commemorative plate.

“House Attack” is mental, with a progression that feels like a heart attack in reverse and a refrain — “we’re under attack” — that makes it a song for these times. “Late Night Jam” has a jack kicks your ass and then drops out, takes a smoke break and comes back to kick your ass again. The accent here is on both the “late night” and the “jam” and it works in both contexts. This is such a beautiful tune.
