The original mix of lead track “Hold On” is a clean, crisp house tune with a quality soulful performance from vocalist Paja and an air of calmness to it. The Staccatoman remix works better for me, its layers of percussion, smooth digital pads and squelchy acid line making for a more eventful dance floor impact than the original.
However, the strongest track here for me is easily the A2, “Deep Inside.” Built around some classic-sounding synth chord stabs with an old school Italian house feel, and some excellently obvious cowbell and woodblock percussion, it meanders along at a leisurely 115 bpm, gradually building with the addition of more percussion and some elegant strings, with a slightly strained vocal kept low in the mix, giving it a strangely appealing detached feel. If “Deep Inside” was an imagined time and place it could be 3am, summer 1985, on some silk-draped, fern-adorned Ibizan terrace dance floor coming up on some expensive narcotics. A light, classy Balearic-infused floor filler.
