Thousands of people woke up this morning, opened a SoundCloud account and decided to call themselves producers. Rissa Garcia is not one of them: she’s been on the scene for awhile now, and her single for Cosmic Disco shows they’ve been years well-spent. It’s one of those tracks that you can’t peg for a specific sound – it’s a nightmare for digital download shops with their curated and increasingly bizarre genre categories. The soulful vocal sample screams classic, straight-ahead Soulful House. But rather than getting mixed up in the smoothjazztastic world that seems the rage of the senior circuit, it’s backed by uptempo beats, a simple but frightfully addictive keyboard riff and a wall of sublime little touches and effects.
