Khruangbin if you don’t know are a totally badass US three-piece band who make deep, organic, boundary-pushing dub funk. Ron Trent if you don’t know (ha ha) is a Chicago record producer who makes deep, organic, boundary-pushing house music, so overall, I’m unsurprised that this is a great record.

“Flos Potentia (Sugar, Cotton, Tabacco)” was the teaser track from Ron Trent’s latest album What Do The Stars Say To You. It’s a deft blend of live instrumentation and synthesized parts where soul keys and gauzy pads mesh with layers of percussion and nifty guitar licks and where there are no breakdowns, no build-ups, no trendy edits, it’s just a stretched-out, undulating, rolling groove.

I’m not even sure that it should be included on this page as it’s not exactly a house track, it’s more a 4/4 electronic jazz-funk jam really. But I’m pretty sure you could slip it in the mix at 8am as the rays from the morning sun light up the rave and it might just create one of those unforgettable dance floor moments.
