The original of L.A. artist and producer Sweatson Plank’s “The Road To Love” is a nice little groover of a track with popping percussion, an old-time blues-ish vocal sample and some live instrumentation, but if I heard it in a record shop I’d nod along but wouldn’t buy it.
The Session Victim remix however is a different matter. They’ve created a percolating, shuffling, instant-head nodder of a rhythm track from the original parts and used it as the foundation for a funky, driving remix. It strikes the perfect balance between organic, live-sounding jazzy sax licks, drum beats and piano flourishes, and whatever synths or samples they used to create the bassline — a driving, heavy-duty low rumble with real forward motion — house stabs and drifty pads. Jazz-ish house done right.
