Souleance photo

A bonkers and brilliant double AA sided 7″ here from First Word Records, with the added bonus of an Art Of Tones remix on the digital version.

French artists Soulist & Fulgeance’s “Souleance” production project has evolved into a live band of late, with gigs and festivals booked across Europe over the summer. If this searing-hot pair of tracks are anything to go by, they should be keeping the dancers very happy with potent, to-the-point grooves and heavy, heavy beats.

Named after the French word for “tickle,” “GUILI” lays down a Latin-flavoured Disco/Funk groove with killer live bass and some lovely vintage synth lines and subtle scratches. On the flip, “TORO” is just loose, stomping, synth funk at its very best, with a surprisingly tender arpeggiated breakdown at its heart.

Sadly missing from the vinyl issue, Art Of Tones essentially turns “GUILI” into a full song, with timeless strings (think Philly International), a brand new Rhodes groove and even vocals. The summer is here. You need this in your life.
