Ornaments releases some beautiful music, most of it deep, some of it dub, and some of it ambient, or downtempo, or with a generally chill sort of vibe. 2 Jahre Dazwischen contains just about all of above — an EP of pianos, synths, sometimes with percussion underlying them and sometimes not.
The A side is just one track — the nodding but melancholic “Verloren,” followed by a remix from Rajko Müller aka Isolée. Exceptionally well produced, “Verloren” (“Lost” — and props for not Anglicizing this from German, as while it’s not exactly an endangered language we should all make electronic music unapologetically from our own reality, which means our own tongue) soars and dives through twinkling keys and dense sine waves. Isolée adds a kinetic energy while preserving “Verloren’s” sense of the dramatic.
There are four tracks on the B-side, drawing a sometimes desolate but persuasively immersive landscape. Drums sometimes emerge from the arms of clouds, adding something like a heartbeat, as in “Zum Glück,” before succumbing to the waves. Gorgeous.
