It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to a much beloved Chicago DJ, Monte Lank aka DJ Silk. He passed away from a stroke on Monday, August 1st at Franciscan St. James Health.
Already DJing in high school, Monte graduated from Lindblom in 1989. Good friend Quill McClain remembers him opening up for the late Armando Gallop at several functions, and fellow alum Reginald Davenport recalls “When we had a class reunion function back in 2014 he noted that most of our classmates probably didn’t know that I was a DJ so he offered me a guest slot to share the spotlight with him.”
Monte was a part of the collective DJs of the Craft and also played at the Friday Night Audio Show on WKKC. He had also done a number of guest spots on Soul 106.
He was affiliated with the Cornerstone Lodge 91, free and accepted Masons since 1992. Fellow Monte Williams remembers that “He was a good friend first and a faithful Masonic brother who was loyal to the organization. He was a lover of House Music and was really passionate about being a good DJ, he really cared about his audience.”
Monte Lank is survived by his wife Joann-Williams Lank and 2 children.
May his soul rest in peace…
