Roy Ayers is recovering with his family after a health scare lead to wild rumors he was rushed to a hospital ahead of a gig in Portland, Oregon this weekend.
Oregon Public Radio reported on Saturday that soul legend Roy Ayers had been “rushed to the hospital after arriving at Portland International Airport” on Saturday. Ayers and his group Roy Ayers Ubiquity had been scheduled to play the Roseland Theater as part of the Soul’d Out Music Festival.
A health emergency certainly happened, but Ayers never left New York, where airport security, concerned by his condition, contacted medics. Ayers’ wife and daughter met him at the hospital and took him home.
Ayers posted just his 93rd tweet since 2011 to dispel rumors and clarify what had happened:
PSA: I am home and was NEVER rushed to the hospital in Portland.I Got a bit turned around at the airport.securtiy was concerned, medics took me to hospital where my wife&daughter came to get me a take me home.thanks to all for your concern and well wishes.
