When we write the history of the 2010s we’re going to chuck out about 90% of the shit they said was fire and Andrés’ “New For U” will stand out as one of the top records of the decade. Nobody says how many copies they sell of anything anymore but the soul-with-strings deep house masterpiece sold a LOT and still retains a premium on the resale market.

A live version is on the flipside of the new Mahogani 12″ and it is a revelation. When the drums drop out, the vocal just washes over you. It’s a benediction. It purifies. Andrés does a spectacular job of keeping a solid energy here in the manner of “Deep Burnt.”

“New For U” (live) is, of course, only the b-side of this new release. “Praises” is upfront and became one of those records that is blurbed by RA, Mixmag and everyone else who seem to have dedicated exactly 30 seconds clicking around the waveform and not a second more. I say that because I have no idea how you could listen to that organ groove and heated vocal and not freak. Andrés has a preternatural gift for throwing exuberant, over-the-top disco flourishes at the deepest of deep house tracks but he hits another gear on “Praises.” This is a 12″ that you will play a lot, and for a very long time.

Andrés: Praises/New For U (Live) (Mahogani / July 2021 / 12″ Vinyl)
A: Andrés: “Praises” (6:31)
B: Andrés: “New For U” (live) (7:46)
