Music to stomp your feet and blow up your heart. “Baby Don’t (Rework)” leads off Damian Rausch‘s What’s Your Name? EP with a lead in that burns like a long wick and then suddenly blows up in your face. We’re talking about a full 1:56 before the vocal goes boom — driven by a propulsive rhythm and a bassline that gallops hard and fast like a Chess Records Windy City workout. You can listen to 500 cookie-cutter deep house tracks and forget what you’re missing until you hear a powerhouse track like this. It’s a musical palette cleaner and a volatile dancefloor incendiary.

“Sunset” is an experiment that pays off: chipper ’80s effects with a dirging Murk-like synth that makes the whole thing feel a little subversive. “What’s Your Name” is a slinky, horny little number that gets a lot of mileage out of a phone sex chat between “Rod” and “Fantasy,” a full-throttle pace and a vaulting electro riff that vibrates like a… well, you know. “Work” brings it back home with another instantly gratifying ’90s belter. Rausch is a phenomenal talent and on What’s Your Name? it really does shine.
