Dan Only has apparently not being doing this that long. This is astonishing, because The Wurly Chronicles sounds like a career-defining EP right from the needle drop and all the way into the run out. On both sides. “It’s Clear” is quite simply one of the best songs of 2018 for me – and it’s early days, but I don’t think that’s going to change. “It’s Clear” has a beat like a body pulse and a groove like a hip-swinging full body orgasm. “Be Major… Believe” is no footnote – none of it is, and if he has management I can only imagine they’re shredding Danny for giving all of these beautiful tracks to Dirt Crew for one single release. Any of them could have anchored a sterling, five star EP and kept the man’s name in the trades for months. There’s not a hole on The Wurly Chronicles that you can push a finger through. The B-side delivers too: the soulful space jazz of “Don’t You Understand” and the whimsical and (sorry) whirly lounge exotica of “Truffles.”

Dan Only’s The Wurly Chronicles: Track Teardown

Over the years, I’ve tried to encourage artists early on in their career with praise when I thought they did well and whenever warranted or necessary, because we can never have too many likeminded people of talent in this part of the business. No love’em’up necessary here: find Dan Only, book him, buy his records and keep them in stock if you can.
