This record is nine years old and we’ve been writing about it since before it existed. TruSkool was originally released on DJ Sneak’s Magnetic back in 2016. Our first cover story with Demuir was published a month earlier and mentioned TruSkool in a footnote, almost in passing. TruSkool would lift Demuir’s profile to a new level.
Some people in this scene are kind of dicks and assume everyone’s faking it until they prove it. TruSkool proved it: it showed Demuir had a rare versatility and proficiency as a producer, and lead to roughly where we are right now.

TruSkool (and Demuir) are both held highly enough to stir enough demand for a vinyl pressing of the album — a 2×12″ release that comes home to Demuir‘s Purveyor Underground. Nothing here sounds diminished by the passage of time. The A side of the first 12″ opens with sweaty dynamite. All three tracks here — “2.5 Bars – It Works Tho (Innovate),” “Aesthetics (Dub)” and the Spencer Kincy-esque “It’s My Turn” are high quality demolition agents that just ache to fuck with people on the dancefloor. I remembered this album as having more jackin’ house type material than it does, or maybe time has just worn down the edges in people and things and the quality has, maybe for the first time in history, risen to the top. (I think we were all getting sick of another fucking edit of “Jingo” being released every week as an original track by DJs and labels named after food. Twenty twenty five sucks in so, so many ways, but on the bright side, that shit is done.) But all I hear on TruSkool today is soul, funk, deep shit and fun shit and none of that ever goes sour or out of style.
