Luke McKeehan and Nordic Trax keep grinding at it. The label is now in its 27th year if I’ve done the math right, and the enthusiasm for finding new music and blasting it out to the underground still registers as a mad EKG pulse buzzing through Nordic Trax’s new releases.
Jon Delerious is a frequently flyer on Nordic Air and steps out with one of his best EPs on Deepest Hour. “Virtual Love” is a hands-in-the-air party track, and if you listen to it first you’ll probably walk away with the wrong impression. “Soul Clap Revisited” takes a low-slung funk groove and elevates it to a high art: this could likely be played in a continual loop for the next hour and I wouldn’t complain. Square bass adds a really unexpected but delightful effect to a downtempo funk jam.
“Deepest Hour” is less lurid, more sophisticated, a dub-lover’s delight. The bottom bread is “Fever Crystal,” a thumping, nodding hunk of electronica boogie. Big ups NT and JD.
