Phenomenal four track EP by a new talent from Melbourne, Australia. Change of Seasons is the unassuming name for a remarkable label debut for Marli, who has been producing for a few years but emerges with a nearly pitch-perfect release on Unknown To The Unknown. Other than a fondness for slightly lo-fi and hazy aesthetics, there’s no narrow sound or identity here — Marli fishes through decades of electronic music history for the inspiration for her tracks — though I think that’s an overall strength.

“Things You Could Not Express” radiates with that floaty, fuzzy sound of early Detroit and Tresor releases. It’s diamond-cut, a gem that sparkles brightest on this release. “Change of Seasons” toys with breakbeats and sonorous, moody chords and if you told me it was made by a totally different artist about 20 years before or after the first track I would have believed it. “When You’re Mine” darts quickly back to the fulcrum of that classic Berlin/Detroit axis — exquisitely produced and dense with textures and atmospheres.
