No matter what track, from what album or in what year, I usually have the same two reactions to a new Hardkiss release:
“The hell is this?”
Which is followed by: “I like it.”
For “Revolution,” I’ve already gone through that process. I covered it before, as “Revolution” was the lead single from the Hardkiss “reunion” album 1991. It featured a remix from Scott Hardkiss and was among the tracks released after Scott’s death in 2013. Fittingly, it featured a remix from all three of the Hardkiss brothers, though the lore of “Revolution” and the 1991 album goes a lot deeper.
These are new remixes, though, curiously released not on Hardkiss Music but Kenny Summit’s label Good For You Records. The only official Hardkiss here is Gavin Hardkiss, who contributes a 2026 remix that leads off with a remix that feels both tentative and wholesome. What’s interesting is there’s a kind of signature here: if you drifted off in 1995 and woke up in 2026, you would easily identify Gavin’s remix as the work of the same producer who made “3 Nudes in a Purple Garden.” It’s none of the same equipment but it’s the same guy with the same soul and I can’t really emphasize how rare it is to develop such a strong sound signature that it can outlast three decades of tumultuous electronic music history.
Also on the release: Kenny Summit and Scott Wozniak amp it up in a stomping 21st century synthpop revival style, and n808 kicks everything around and winds up with a dark and wobbly bass-driven jam. Wonderful release.
