Musica Solida vol 3 is an EP on vinyl to celebrate its owners’ 40 years in the business. Their business is records: the Flexi Dischi record store in Lugo, Italy and the Flexi Cut label, a vital pulse of the deep house underground. Aside from its international flavor, Musica Solida vol 3 flows better than most V/As, progressing on a gradient that starts with achingly beautiful deep house and accelerates into fuzzy hardware acid jams.
Some familiar names on the A-side, with Melchior Sultana leading off with the aptly titled “Cascade,” featuring glistening keys and sultry vocals from featured singer Janelle Pulo. The music gets deeper and a bit spooky with “Ghost Swell” from 5 Mag friend Gratts and featuring frequent collaborator Mr. Beale. Slowaxx and Al Lati rough up the surface with the curiously kinetic, acid-flecked robot boogie of “Flaneur.”
Robotalco’s “Acid All Around” is grimy Midwest techno with mysterious vocal samples and percolating acid bumps. I love almost all acid tracks I hear but this one is particularly delicious.
