Rekordbox DJ updates

Pioneer just pushed update version 6.1.1 to its popular rekordbox DJ software which adds support for streaming service Tidal and includes a Serato-like “edit mode.”

Edit mode enables DJs to “create a custom version of any track you own”:

“Want to extend the intro or outro of a song to give you more time to mix or scratch? Keen to cut out the breaks so the energy stays high? It’s quick and simple to remove or loop sections of the music and you can do it all inside rekordbox; there’s no need to export tracks to an external DAW (digital audio workstation) and re-import them to your library.”

This only applies to “tracks you own,” however: in a footnote Pioneer adds that tracks “from streaming services such as Tidal, Beatport LINK, Beatsource LINK and SoundCloud Go+ cannot be edited or exported as audio files from Edit mode.” It is not possible to import music from Tidal to the rekordbox sampler, “and the recording and Capture features can’t be used when tracks from the streaming service are playing.”

Edit mode is only available for subscribers to rekordbox’s “Creative Plan” – the top-tier $14.99 monthly subscription option for rekordbox – though Pioneer will allow all users on a plan to try it for the next 30 days.

The new update also adds support for Tidal’s streaming service. rekordbox previously supported Beatport LINK, Beatsource LINK and SoundCloud Go+.
