Ralf Gum is succeeding in what should be the goal of every artist-owned label: to create an environment in which his participation as an artist is no longer necessary. I mean, I hope he always does make music and release it on his own label, forever, but he doesn’t have to, and he’s walked that tight-rope between letting go entirely and recruiting artists that reflect his own taste and principles and allowing them to grow.
Grow they have: GOGO releases from their troupe of regular artists feature expert-level songwriting and arrangement. “Everything Changes” from label fixtures Joseph Junior and MAQman is no exception. DJ Spinna jumps in for a remix; his instrumental is cosmic, a soul riff session with some gnarly virtuoso musicianship.
