(Yet) another quality release from producer and singer Niko Marks, who has built up an impressive discography since his 1998 debut on fellow Detroit-er Eddie Fowlkes’ City Boy label.
Jazz Nagas consists of eight tracks of high-end underground Detroit deep house, and the title track which is a moody, downtempo theme-ic instrumental with jazz double bass, nocturnal strings, clip-clop electronic percussion and a bluesy piano solo; super classy. You then get to choose from organ-drenched overdriven Detroit gospel house track “Let Be,” speedy, tech-tinged, chrome-edged sci-fi deep housers “Come Back My Way” and “Don’t Stop Now,” swaggering, brassy soulful house with “Algorithm Chaser” and “Music Got Me,” or opulent, uber-funky Latin jazz funk broken-techno track “Artic Block” and yes, you read correctly, opulent, uber-funky Latin jazz funk broken-techno, and it’s every bit as good as it sounds. More quality gear from a consistently impressive producer.
