In the three years since Rutilance dropped his Mad In Lyon EP, Ortella has burst forth with an untamed sound, tight as fuck and playing around with ’90s vibes without falling in thrall to them.
Mad In Lyon was my own introduction to him, and Music Is My Shelter will be the introduction for many more. This is his resumé – if anyone wants to know about Ortella or his sound or what he’s capable of, whip out “Original De Luxe” mix and they’ll have all the information they need to know. The sound hearkens back to Jersey garage – it is entirely possible to envision a world in which this dominates the playlists at KISS-FM and makes back-to-back plays at Red Zone.
The mix wrings every bit of soul out of the Rhodes, with two additional mixes in an interesting package: a toned-down and tuned-up “Intro De Luxe” mix intended for warm-ups, and “Dub De Luxe” which with a polished and fuller sound does what it says on the label.
