Now this is something you can vibe to. “Video Planet” is a new single from Cirene, a producer from Italy but now residing on “an island in the middle of the Mediterranean.” I can only find a handful of records to his name, most of them recent but with a practiced devotion to classic deep house sounds and the cities and scenes and folk that they came from.
“Video Planet” is a musical love letter to the music of Chez and Ron, Strictly and Nu Groove, with a sensibility and restraint you rarely hear these days (no gratuitous breaks, no gratuitous FX drops). There’s a lively bassline and a night-drive vibe that wraps this together. If you are a fan of any of the names dropped in this paragraph, this record will make you very happy.
