Marquis Hawkes reached out to the legendary Jamie Lidell, or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, we benefit with this highly energized, highly pressurized single on Hawkes’ Houndstooth imprint.
Lidell is in rare form: just on delivery alone, this is hands-in-the-air uplifting house which Hawkes primes with bouncy, unadorned chords and rapidfire jacking percussion – almost an homage to a certain Chicago sound often left out of the conversation when people talk about Chicago house.
The dub will find a friendly home in the set of DJs who need something a little more low-slung, but I’ll take the workout over the cool down every time.
