That’s two-for-two for Selections, a newish Canadian label that follows up a small collection of Nick Holder gems with Stuttgart to Parkdale, a new deep dancefloor delight from Tobi Danton, aka Tobias Hölzel of Rough Recordings. “That’s Right” captures in a bottle the vintage ’90s Detroit Deep House sound of Stacey Pullen. There’s a warmth and airy-ness to these tracks that suggest an audiophile’s ear — they just sound like love in the ear cup.
Far and away the triumph here is Kevin Over’s remix of “Last Dance.” Stripped down, pounding four-to-the-floor energy on this one. In some universe they might make this the national anthem for a community of funkified plebians. Both Tobi Danton and Kevin Over were pretty new names to me but not any longer.
